Enzo
Rescued at a week old with his littermates and no mum Enzo had a very rough start. His adopter looked for a dog behaviourist nearby to help him be a stable dog.
Enzo's adopter was in touch with his fosterer from when he was just a few weeks old, receiving photos and developmental updates.
Knowing that Enzo wasn't going to get any input on his behaviour from his mum, who had died giving birth, his adopter reached out to me.
We went through my puppy package and I gave her lots of information about what to expect, what training would need to be implemented straight away and what issues to look out for. Further, we talked about canine communication and children around dogs so she could work with her young son to give Enzo the space he needed from day one. We sourced a dog walker together so that Enzo had company while she was at university and I gave her some exercises to focus the training on relationship building and most importantly... fun.
A few weeks after Enzo was in his new home and settling in his owner reached out again. Enzo was a blanket suckler and was showing signs of resource guarding around it. Enzo used the blanket to self soothe and be calm so taking it away was not something she wanted to do. We put a plan in place to work on resource guarding.
The owner had also decided that sleeping on the sofa was easier than trying to take her pup to bed so we talked a lot about this and I gave lots of new ideas.
Enzo is now 7 months old and thriving! His owner knows that she can always reach out to me if anything else arises but on my last contact with her, he was a soft, calm, lovable dog who melted everyone's hearts. He was particularly attached to the primary school aged child in the house and I love receiving the videos of his whole body moving when his little boy walks in from school.
If you are getting a new dog or puppy soon and would like to be ready in all ways then reach out. I can liaise with the rescue or breeder and give specific advice for your choice of breed.
